Go to sectionThe distinctiveness of Indena’s proprietary delivery system emerges clearly when observing the difference between the plasma concentration profiles of two different catechin extracts, with or without Indena Phytosome™ formulation: Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ and Greenselect®.
Plasma EGCG profiles in healthy subjects were monitored after ingestion of a single dose of one of the two preparations, containing 240 mg of tea catechins each. After 2 hours, the difference in peak concentration was significantly different: EGCG concentration with Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ was more than doubled and remained higher over time (Fig. 1).
Furthermore, the optimized catechins profile reflects also to an improved antioxidant activity, compared to traditional green tea extract.

Multiple clinical studies have demonstrated that green tea catechins, play a coadjuvant role in weight management when combined with a low-calorie diet thanks to their capacity to enhance caloric expenditure through increased thermogenesis.
Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ further exploits catechins benefits, delivering clinical efficacy as proven in different populations.
In one 90-day study, overweight participants following a balanced hypocaloric diet showed remarkable improvements when supplemented with Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™: while the control group (diet only) experienced an average BMI reduction of 5%, those also taking the supplement achieved a significantly higher reduction of 12% (p<0.001 vs. baseline). A notable decrease in waist circumference was also observed, particularly among male subjects (Fig. 2 and 3).
Further evidence from another randomized study in menopausal women, evaluated key indicators of adipose tissue function - respiratory quotient (RQ), resting energy expenditure (REE), carbohydrate oxidation (%CHO), and lipid oxidation (%LIP) - at baseline and after 30 and 60 days of supplementation with 150 mg of Greenselect® Phytosome® or placebo. Statistically significant differences were recorded over time in all measured parameters: RQ (p = 0.009), REE (p = 0.009), %CHO (p = 0.0006), and %LIP (p = 0.0006), confirming the ingredient's impact on metabolic dynamics (Fig. 4).
Collectively, these findings establish Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ as an optimal companion ingredient for individuals requiring support at various stages of life and under different physiological conditions, including borderline body weight and metabolic profiles, menopause, and chronic treatments with GLP-1 products.

Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ is also proven top offer cardiovascular protection thanks to the demonstrated statistically significant (p<0,05) amelioration of key metabolic parameters including fasting glucose (-7%), triglycerides (-8%), HDL (about +20%) versus baseline, after 6 months supplementation.
Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ demonstrated a significant impact on metabolic health, with 68% of subjects showing an improvement in their metabolic profile following supplementation.
In contrast, 80% of participants in the control group maintained their initial borderline signature, indicating a lack of spontaneous improvement without intervention.
These results underscore the potential of Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ as an effective strategy for supporting metabolic balance in at-risk individuals.
Hormonal changes during menopause can lead to modified body composition, increased lipid tissue and weight gain, which represent major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
A randomized clinical trial carried out on overweight post-menopausal sedentary women evaluated the effect of Greenselect® Indena Phytosome™ supplementation on the regulation of lipid tissue function, confirming the positive action of the green tea extract in its formulation.
