Centextra® is a carefully standardized dry extract of Centella asiatica (L.) Urban, developed to preserve the full spectrum of triterpenoid compounds naturally present in the plant, as confirmed by in-depth phytochemical analyses. Among these, asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid represent the key biologically active constituents associated with skin health and integrity.2,3 The power of these compounds is fully leveraged thanks to the Indena Phytosome® delivery system, specifically designed for optimized biological and technological performances.
Indena took its research further with several preclinical studies conducted to investigate the biological activity of Centextra®, evaluating its antioxidant properties, its role in supporting a healthy inflammatory response, and its effects on collagen structure and skin regeneration.4
The results demonstrated that Centextra® significantly reduces intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, restoring them toward physiological values in a dose-dependent manner, while also significantly decreasing IL-6 activity, suggesting a promising role in supporting balanced inflammatory response.4
Moreover, scratch assay models showed that Centextra® promotes cell migration and monolayer repair, leading to a closure rate of approximately 40% after 24 hours. The extract also helped restore collagen levels toward physiological conditions and countered collagen degradation mediated by collagenase activity, supporting the maintenance of dermal structural matrix and skin integrity.4
All of this constitutes evidence of the pleiotropic effect of Centextra®.
To further investigate the extract’s efficacy, a clinical study is currently ongoing to evaluate the effects of Centextra® on skin elasticity and firmness, as well as on skin profilometry parameters.5
