The Boswellia Serrata Project

The Boswellia Serrata Project

The Boswellia serrata Project takes place in India, in the Madhya Pradesh state, where the Boswellia serrata tree is used to extract gum resin. The project started in November 2015 with clear objectives.

Goals

  • Improve people’s working condition;
  • Increase the quality of harvested material;
  • Ensure sustainable harvest of the plant.

Actions

  • Build 2 warehouses in 2 different villages for proper storage of the Boswellia resin and other botanical species collected by the local community;
  • Cooperate with our local supplier and NGO Gwalior Catholic Seva Samaj to get to the desired result.

Main results

  • Supply chain optimization allowed us to improve people’s working conditions and the quality of raw materials, now stored in cleaner facilities;
  • As a consequence, we started recording fewer injuries as well as fewer defective batches of raw material. This contributes to increasing revenues for people who collect gum resin and optimizes the quantity of collected raw materials.
