Peer-reviewed science on Leucoselect® Phytosome

The antioxidant power1

The antioxidant power of Leucoselect® Phytosome has been verified in human trials. The administration of daily doses (300 mg) of the ingredient, twice a day, in 20 young volunteers led to a positive outcome of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in the treated subjects.

Oxidative stress
after a fatty meal2

Postprandial lipids level in the blood is an important factor to monitor to keep a healthy the blood circulatory system, possibly taking into account the plasma lipid hydroperoxides (LPO) affecting the oxidant/antioxidant balance and increasing the LDL susceptibility to oxidation.
In this study, 8 healthy volunteers consumed the same test meal rich in oxidized and oxidizable lipids without (control) or with 300 mg of a Leucoselect® Phytosome. Results showed that the supplementation of a meal with the grape seed extract minimizes the postprandial oxidative stress by decreasing the oxidants and increasing the antioxidant levels in plasma.

Protection from
LDL oxidation in smokers3

Antioxidant molecules contained in grape seeds act as powerful free-radical scavengers and may counteract the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), contributing to keep free from plaques the blood vessels.
Promising but non conclusive results emerged from a randomized, double, blind cross-over study (on 24 healthy heavy smokers) that examined oxidative indexes after the administration of 75 mg, twice a day, of the ingredient, for 4 weeks: in subjects taking Leucoselect® Phytosome, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentration decreased significantly.

Supporting the immune function5

Not just antioxidant activity, Leucoselect® Phytosome, showed interesting immunomodulating properties, upregulating T helper (Th) I response in human elderly subject.
