Mirtoselect® and brain health

Emotional wellbeing and neuroprotection1

As we age or experience prolonged stress, our brains are increasingly exposed to oxidative stress and other damaging factors that can affect mood, memory, and mental clarity. Over time, this may lead to emotional imbalance and gradual cognitive decline.
Protecting brain cells — a process known as neuroprotection — is therefore essential to preserve both emotional well-being and cognitive performance.

In an in vitro study, Mirtoselect® demonstrated the ability to:

  • Protect neurons from oxidative damage,
  • Stimulate the production of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), a key protein that supports learning, memory, and neuronal plasticity,
  • Modulate neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), which play a central role in mood regulation, stress response, and cognitive function.

Building on these preclinical findings, Mirtoselect® was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study — the gold standard in clinical research — involving 33 healthy adults aged 25 to 55. Participants were divided into two groups and took either Mirtoselect® (320 mg/day) or a placebo for four weeks.

The study showed relevant improvements in mood for participants taking Mirtoselect®, including:

  • Reduced feelings of low mood,
  • Lower levels of tension and confusion,
  • Increased vigor and overall sense of well-being.

These clinical outcomes confirm the findings from preclinical research: Mirtoselect® not only helps protect brain cells from oxidative damage but also supports key molecular pathways involved in mood balance.
